Hello Resident
I am pleased to share our monthly update with you. Please find below a summary of our activities and achievements for the past month. The update provides an overview of the community work carried out during the month.
ASB Week - Mounted Police Engagement Anti-Social Behaviour Week was supported by the West Midlands Police Mounted Unit on 1st July 2026 in Kings Norton. Officers on horseback joined patrols and community engagement activity, increasing high-visibility presence across key areas. The Mounted Unit visited the Ark Kings Academy Primary School and St. Paul's Primary School, also visited Hawkesley Square and Greeves Square. They generated significant positive public interaction and helped reinforce deterrence messaging around ASB, while providing opportunities for residents, particularly young people, to engage positively with police.
A crime prevention stall was also held at the Hawkesley Square by local PCSOs to support ASB awareness.
Faith & Cultural Engagement: Temple Visit We had the opportunity to visit Sri Lalithambigai Amman Salambai temple on 16/05/26. It was a valuable experience for interfaith understanding and building bridges. We were welcomed warmly, learned about the traditions and values of the temple, and had meaningful discussions on community, service, and mutual respect.
Drop-In-Sessions At The Sweet Project We continued to hold our drop-in-sessions at the Sweet Project in partnership with a team of qualified social workers. These sessions were held on 20/05/26, 10/06/26 and 16/06/26. Attendance figures indicate a progressive increase in community participation. The drop-in-sessions provide a structured forum for community engagement, access to information, and support from local services.
Community Meetings In addition, a series of community meetings were convened during the month to discuss local priorities, share updates on ongoing projects, and gather resident feedback. These meetings provided a platform for open dialogue and collaborative decision-making, ensuring community perspectives inform future activities. The meetings were held on: 22/05/26 (The Kings Norton Library), 31/05/26 and 07/06/26 ((The Hawkesley Community Centre), and 20/06/26 (St. Nicolas Church - thank you to Miss Charlotte Hulbert (Social Worker) and Cllr Martin Smith for joining the meeting).
Partnership Support: Billesley Neighbourhood Police Team We provided operational support to the Billesley Neighbourhood Team on 24/05/26 in locating a reported stolen motorbike, which was subsequently recovered. The successful recovery underscores effective collaboration in addressing local community safety concerns.
Vehicle Seizures & Recovery A Statutory Off Road Notification (SORN) vehicle was seized on 29/05/26 in our area from Sir Hilton's Road. We also supported the Selly Oak Neighbourhood Police Team in the recovery of an abandoned vehicle on 01/06/26 that was causing obstruction.
Environmental and Safety Reporting During patrols, an unlawfully deposited waste, including items of discarded furniture, was identified on the public highway on Gildas Avenue on 11/06/26, presenting a clear hazard to pedestrian and vehicular safety. The incident was formally reported to the Local Authority via the Fix My Street reporting platform. The council responded with due diligence, and the waste was removed within 24 hours of the report being submitted, thereby mitigating the identified safety risk.
Reassurance Visit Following a reported vehicle theft during June, a reassurance visit was conducted with residents on the affected street (Old Lime Gardens) on 12/06/26. Residents were provided with crime prevention information and West Midlands Now (WMNow) registration cards were distributed to encourage ongoing community alerts and engagement. The visit provided practical guidance and general reassurance to mitigate community concern and reinforce confidence in local safety measures.
Crime Prevention Stall - Farmers Market A crime prevention stall was held at the local farmers market last month on 13/06/26. The stall provided residents with crime prevention advice, crime reduction literature, and opportunities to register for WMNow community alerts. Window alarms and personal safety alarms were also distributed to enhance home and personal security. This engagement increased visibility of crime prevention messaging and enabled direct interaction with community members in a high-footfall public setting.
Advice Surgery - Local Library A community advice surgery was held on 26/06/26 at the Kings Norton library that provided residents with confidential one-to-one support, advice, and signposting to relevant local services.
School Engagement - Funfair Day At Kings Norton Primary School We visited Kings Norton Primary School on 03/07/26 on their funfair day and letters reminding parents of illegal parking were handed out to promote road safety and community consideration around school times. The engagement provided a positive opportunity to meet with children, parents, and staff in a community setting.
